They offer huge, impressive rooms with a balcony and cooking facilities, as for instance. A microwave oven, a refrigerator and a dining area are a nice touch.

The hotel's staff was brilliantly friendly and amiable. The room I booked was newly decorated and well-appointed with a mini kitchen, a balcony, and a big sofa.

2 bedroom suite was beautiful-loved period amenities. View from the 7th floor breakfast/dining lovely. Problem: parking is less than adequate- didn't want st parking. Also conteniental breakfast is until 10am-got there at 9am & no fruit, topping for yogart, decaf was gone. After I ate(tea, muffin, yogart) danish, fruit &yogart topping was repenished.Never decaf and I was already finished. Airport noise late night disturbing.

Outstanding staff: Best welcome ever. Excellent location next to Balboa Park and Hillcrest. Very good for kids. Nice little kitchen. Free parking. Exceptional view from our room and from the roof. It is an old hotel: personally I liked that historic feel, but others might not.

The staff at the reception.
The hotel is priced way above what it is worth. Large old rooms, with old, not well maintained, furniture. Minimal breakfast. Nothing in the area.

Location across from Balboa Park and close to Hillcrest is awesome. Plenty of free street parking. Great view from the roof.
Prior to check in I requested a room with a view or at least a high up room. They said they would make a note but couldn't guarentee it. Upon checkin the staff member stated we had an excellent room with a view. We went to the room which was on the second floor. No view other than construction, parking lot and the garbage area. I went to request another room but that was all they had. The member said he would follow up the next day if something came available. He never followed up. We had two guest stay in the living room on the sofa bed. This hardly qualified as a bed. It sloped and was unsleepable. They had no room service and the room was sparse. It almost felt like a residential hotel. So much for a wedding night vacation.

We really liked the location across the road from beautiful Balboa Park. We also liked the buffet style continental breakfast included in the price.
The hotel is in an old building, and many of the suites have not been upgraded for a very long time. There was a strong musty smell in one of the suites. The bathrooms and the kitchens were more like the ones you would find in some 2-star motels. There is only valet parking at the hotel for $16 per day. The computers and wi-fi service were not working for the last two days of our stay. There is only one, very slow elevator in the hotel, and there is no air conditioning in the rooms.

I liked the spacious rooms, the older architecture, the comfortable furniture, the kitchen space, and the proximity to great restaurants and the park.
I found a couple of small ants in the bathroom.
